Sherwood Partners expands

Sherwood Partners, a Palo Alto-based consulting firm often working with venture-backed companies, has opened a Boston office.

The new office is headed by Brian Horgan, who was a co-founder of Orix Venture Finance, which provides debt financing to venture-backed tech companies. He was previously head of the East Coast office of Greyrock Capital, a venture finance affiliate of Bank of America.

"Opening a Boston office will complement our Silicon Valley headquarters and places us in the heart of the action on both coasts," said Martin Pichinson, a co-founder of Sherwood Partners.

Sherwood and Pichinson are best known as a liquidators, frequently brought in by venture capitalists to pull the plug on struggling venture companies. Sherwood may see that assisting healthy companies now could be more of a growth business.
